Mulayam praises Amar Singh’s contribution

New Delhi: Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh, under fire from some colleagues over his remarks on the Firozabad by-poll, Thursday received full backing from party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, who praised his work and emphasised his position in the hierarchy.

“He is a leader who can take action against others,” Mulyam Singh said, referring to reports that the party was unhappy over some of his remarks and could take action against him.

He also praised Amar Singh’s efforts to popularise the party and his contribution to its growth.

Amar Singh had said that the party lost the Firozabad Lok Sabha by-election due to over-confidence of Mulayam Singh. Reacting to the remarks, Mulayam Singh’s brother and party leader Ram Gopal Yadav said that party leaders should stay within limits while making remarks.

Amar Singh said that Ram Gopal Yadav was his brother and there was nothing wrong in his advice. He also dismissed reports that he was unhappy with the leadership.

“I am happy that I have become shield of my leader (Mulayam Singh) to face all the accusations,” he said.

Singh, however, said that he stood by his remarks about the party losing the by-poll due to Mulayam Singh’s “over-confidence”.
