Srinagar: Renowned ghazal singer Jagjit Singh, who will perform here Wednesday, said he had a huge number of lovers in Kashmir who not only had a strong love and passion for Urdu ghazals, but also understood the nuances of the language.
Jagjit Singh’s ghazal concert will be held at the Sher-e-Kashmir convention complex here.
Speaking to media persons on his arrival here Tuesday, he said: “I have a huge number of lovers in Kashmir who understand the intricacies of Urdu ghazal as they are well-versed with the language but there are only 700 seats in the auditorium where I would be singing tomorrow (Wednesday).”
“I hope to come here again next summer so that I can hold an open air concert to accommodate thousands of Urdu ghazal lovers here,” he said.
The country’s most famous living Urdu ghazal singer recalled that he had come here last time two decades back, but was happy at being able to perform here again.
Kashmir has a large number of Urdu knowing people who love its literature and poetry.
Urdu is also the official language of the state.
