Kochi: The Director General of Prosecution on Tuesday handed over the case diary of the ‘love jihad’ issue to the High Court. The police also reportedly promised the court that the two boys involved in the case would not be arrested till December 17th. The case will again be considered on December 17.
The Director General of prosecution VG Govindan Nair informed the court that the police had collected evidence for the anti-natural sex relation that one of the girls had been subject to. But the accused argued that the accusation was made up and that the case was a police conspiracy. The court did not allow the demand of the accused to go through the case diary.
The petition was filed by the two boys accused of forcefully converting two girls to Islam. The boys – Shahensha and Sirajudheen- were accused of forcefully converting two students of MBA to Islam by feigning love. It was while considering this case that the High Court directed the state police to investigate whether an organisation called ‘Love Jihad’ or ‘Romeo Jihad’ was functioning in the state. The state DGP Jacob Punnoose stated that there was no such organisation functioning in Kerala. The central Home Ministry also repeated the same in its report submitted in the High Court.
The case came up when the girls’ parents filed a complaint with the police that the girls were missing.
They also filed a habeas corpus in the High Court. When the girls arrived in the court with the two boys, the court asked them to go with their parents even though the girls reportedly said that they had embraced Islam out of their own free will. But after a three-week stay with the parents, the girls turned against the boys when they were presented in the court next time. They accused the boys of forceful conversion. There were several reports in the media about the so-called ‘Love Jihad’ and its activities. But the reports have come to an end after the DGP stated in the court that there was no such an organisation or any form of organised attempts for religious conversion in the state.
