Maoists shoot dead three CPI-M workers

By IANS,

Kolkata : Suspected Maoists shot dead three workers of West Bengal’s ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) in a village close to Jhargram town in West Midnapore district Thursday on suspicion they were police informers.

A group of heavily armed extremists called out the three victims – Bijay Mahato, Manik Mahato, and Brihaspati Mahato – from their homes in Jhitka village in the wee hours and shot them at point blank range, said a police official.

The bodies were found lying near a college with a handwritten note accusing the trio of being ‘police informers’.

“A people’s court has given them the extreme punishment,” said the note.

There is tension in the area and a police picket has been posted.

In a separate incident, rebels triggered a landmine and blew up the office of the state forest department at Jhitka in Lalgarh area, about 200 km from Kolkata.
