TRS warns against betrayal on Telangana state

By IANS,

Hyderabad: With legislators and MPs from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions resigning en masse to try and stall a resolution on separate Telangana state, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) Thursday warned against betrayal to the people of the region.

A day after the central government agreed to the demand for a Telangana state, as many as 126 state legislators and several MPs from the other two regions and belonging to the Congress, the Telugu Desam Party and the Praja Rajyam Party quit in protest against the “unilateral” decision by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

“We will not tolerate if anybody tries to humiliate Telangana through such tactics,” said TRS legislator E. Rajender.

He said the government would have to fulfil its promise of moving the resolution in the state assembly. He termed the resignations a conspiracy to prevent formation of Telangana state.

Another TRS leader, N. Narasimha Reddy, tried to play down the resignations.

“The resignations are an internal matter of those parties. We are interested only in formation of separate Telangana state and nobody can stop it,” he said while addressing a massive meeting of students at Osmania University to celebrate the victory.

Speakers at the meeting also made it clear that there was no question of allowing union territory status to Greater Hyderabad and said the city would be the capital of the new state.
