Delhi-based businessman hangs himself in Punjab town

Zirakpur (Punjab): The body of a Delhi-based 45-year-old businessman was found hanging from the hook of a ceiling fan at his home in this Punjab town Sunday, police said.

“Inder Batra was residing in this house for the last three years and he was running a business of banner and stationary printing in Panchkula’s industrial area. He is basically from Delhi where his family comprising of his wife and two sons reside,” said Gurwant Singh, investigating officer in the case.

Police said that Batra’s wife called his manager Rajiv Sunday and told him that Batra was not responding to her repeated calls. When Rajiv visited Batra’s rented accommodation in Harmilap Nagar, he found it bolted from inside and he informed his landlord and police.

“We did not find any suicide note from the spot. We had immediately informed Batra’s wife who would reach here very soon. Loss in business could be a reason behind this extreme step but we are also investigating on other theories,” Singh said.

In the meantime, police have sent the body to the civil hospital in Dera Bassi for post-mortem examination.

Zirakpur town, in Mohali district of Punjab, is around 10 km from the state capital Chandigarh.
