New Delhi: B.P. Baishya and Sahadev Yadav were Sunday unanimously elected president and secretary, respectively, of the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF).
Baishya is a member of parliament and chairman of the North-Eastern Commission of the Indian Olympic Association.
Representatives of all the 33 IWF affiliates also elected Naresh Sharma of Delhi as the treasurer.
Sydney Olympics bronze medallist Karnam Malleswari and K.C. Baba were unanimously elected as vice-presidents in the polls conducted in the presence of Indian Olympics Association observer Mukesh Kumar.
Speaking after the elections, Baishya said his first and foremost duty would be to make the discipline dope-free in the country.
The elections were necessitated by the resignations of former office-bearers and the dissolution of the body after six lifters tested positive for dope at the Pune national camp before the World Championships in China.
