New Delhi: Delhi, Mumbai, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh qualified for the Ranji Trophy semifinals on the fourth and last day of their respective quarterfinals ties Sunday.
Karnataka had taken a first innings lead against Punjab Saturday and as the match expectedly ended in a draw this day, they qualified for the last four stage.
Punjab batsmen Sunny Sohal (89), Mayank Sidhana (50) and Uday Kaul (86) took their second innings to 367 and declared 76 minutes before close of play. Karnataka played till the start of the mandatory overs before both teams agreed to call it a draw.
Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh also couldn’t get the outright wins against newly promoted teams Haryana and Assam but advanced on the basis of their first innings lead.
Delhi resumed the day needing 169 runs to overhaul Tamil Nadu’s first innings total of 463 and did so nine minutes before tea with Gaurav Chabra (100) stroking his maiden century and skipper Rajat Bhatia (94) and wicket-keeper Puneet Bisht (75) making significant contributions.
Delhi now play an away match in Mumbai while Karnataka take on Uttar Pradesh. The semifinals will begin Jan 3.

At Mysore: Punjab 300 & 367/6 decl. (Sunny Sohal 89, Uday Kaul 86, Mayank Sidhana 50; R. Vinay Kumar 2-79). Karnataka 378 and 42/1. Result: Draw.
At Delhi: Tamil Nadu 463 and 27/0. Delhi 490/8 decl. (Gaurav Chabra 100, Mithun Manhas 76, Aditya Jain 76, Puneet Bist 75; Aushik Srinivas 100/2. Result: Draw.
