Lucknow : Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan Wednesday laid the foundation of a new state-of-art building for the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court.
The new building in modern Lucknow’s posh Gomti Nagar is a far cry from what was erected in the heart of the town in 1903.
Spread over a sprawling 40-acre plot, the new building will house 57 courts with 69 judge’s chambers. Besides, it would have 512 lawyer’s chambers, each with a capacity to accommodate six advocates.
A special wing will have chambers for advocate general and all government counsels. Separate facility would be made available to accommodate 2,240 typists and lawyers’ assistants, besides a sitting room for drivers.
According to a high court spokesman, the new building would also have a meeting hall with a capacity of 500.
The five-storey building would have a three-tier underground parking facility with a capacity for 5,000 four-wheelers and 15,000 two-wheelers. Besides multiple lifts, escalators would also be installed in each wing of the building.
Among other facilities, the plan includes a guest house, a club house, canteen, a dispensary as well as an independent Computerized Railway Reservation Centre.
To be made a high security zone, the entire building would be covered by close-circuit cameras.
