26 crew of detained Pakistani trawlers being questioned

By IANS,

Ahmedabad : A day after the Indian Coast Guard apprehended four Pakistani fishing boats off the Gujarat coast, the 26 crew members were Monday handed over to police for interrogation, an official said.

Wing Commander Satish Menon told IANS that the Coast Guard vessel ‘Tarabai’ had apprehended the four Pakistani fishing boats – ‘al Imran’, ‘al Basheer’, ‘Bismillah’ and ‘Abdullah’ – Sunday evening off Jakhau coast following a tip-off about the boats being in Indian waters.

The boats had strayed into Indian waters about 30 nautical miles west of Jakhau in Bhuj.

Ever since the hijacking of the Indian fishing trawler ‘Kuber’ by terrorists leading to the Mumbai outrage on Nov 26 last year, the Coast Guard has heightened security along the Gujarat coastline.

However, the four Pakistani boats managed to enter the Indian coastal waters without being noticed.
