Murder case against paramilitary troopers in Uttar Pradesh

By IANS,

Lucknow : A murder case was lodged Monday against unidentified troopers of the central paramilitary Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) for shooting dead a contractor in a Uttar Pradesh town, close to India-Nepal border, the police said.

The murder case against unidentified SSB personnel was registered Monday in the Pilibhit district, following a complaint by a youth, the police added.

“Surendra Singh, a resident of the Tila number 4 village in Pilibhit, has alleged that his father Dileep Singh was shot dead by SSB personnel Sunday night in the Hazaara locality, close to Nepal,” additional superintendent of police Kushar Saurabh said.

“Dileep Singh, who used to work as a contractor, had gone to leave some labourers on his tractor trolley near the India-Nepal border. While he was returning, the SSB personnel, camping in the area, killed him,” Saurabh added.

The slain contractor’s son has also alleged that after the incident, the SSB personnel threatened him with dire consequences and told not to inform the police about the incident, the police said.

The police said they were not sure why the contractor was allegedly shot dead by the SSB personnel.

Pilibhit is some 300 km from Lucknow.
