GAZA : Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak is working to reach a ceasefire with Hamas through Egyptian mediation, and supports a long-term strategy against Hamas in case such an agreement is not reached, reported the Haaretz in its Wednesday issue.
It quoted a security source as saying that Israel had to be ready for another attack against Hamas, even though Gaza was witnessing calm in the coming period, stressing that Israel would not accept any attacks on its territories, as the case was before “Operation Cast Lead.” Israel launched on December 27 a war on the Strip, killing more than 1320, while the injured exceeded 5450 among them 417 children, 108 women, 120 elderly, 14 ambulance crew members, and five foreigners.
