Islamic Jihad: Israel’s threats to strike on Gaza again just election campaign

By Xinhua,

GAZA : The Islamic Jihad (Holy War) movement said on Sunday the Israeli threats to hit Gaza Strip with another big painful strike “is just part of the elections campaign.”

Abu Ahmed, spokesman of the group’s armed wing Saraya al-Quds said in a statement sent to reporters that “these threats made by (Ehud) Barak and (Tzipi) Livni are not more than satisfying the Zionist electors.”

As Egyptian and Turkish efforts to broker a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel in Gaza Strip intensify, the Jewish state threatened to strike heavily in Gaza Strip if rockets continued to fall into its southern territories.

But Abu Ahmed said all the Palestinian factions are ready to accept a ceasefire if their conditions are met.

“Our demands are clear: lifting the siege and opening all crossing points,” mainly Rafah terminal between the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and Egypt.

He also ruled out reaching a long-term truce, stressing that any deal of calmness “should not exceed a year or a-year-and-a-half at maximum.”

A ceasefire between Hamas and Israel in June last year ended in December and Israel launched an unprecedented war into Gaza Strip lasted for 22 days, killing over 1,300 Palestinians.
