Palestinian envoy thanks Gerindra for humanitarian aid

By ANTARA,

Jakarta : Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Fariz Mehdawi expressed his gratitude to the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) for the humanitarian the party provided for the Palestinian people in the aftermath of the recent Israeli military aggression.

“I am very grateful to Indonesia, especially Gerindra Party which has provided assistance for the people of Gaza,” Ambassador Mehdawi said after receiving cash aid from the chairman of Gerindra Party`s Advisory Council, Prabowo Subianto, here on Friday evening.

The ambassador said that Palestine could learn from Indonesia`s experiences in fighting against colonialism.

“Indonesia is a great country which was colonized for quite a long time. However, finally through a long struggle, Indonesia could free itself from colonialism and has now become a great and sovereign country,” he said at a reception to mark the party`s first anniversary.

The reception was also attended by Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Kojiro Shiojiri and Singaporean Ambassador to Indonesia Ashok Mirpuri.

Prabowo Subianto on the occasion said that as part of the Indonesian nation, his party cared for the fate of the Palestinian people, particularly those in the Gaza Strip which had been the target of Israeli bombings.

“Many civilians, women and children have become victims of the brutal aggression of the Israeli military. Therefore, we felt an obligation to help them,” he said.(*)
