Caracas : Venezuela will hold a referendum Feb 15 on whether to allow an unlimited term for its legislators, including the president.
The move would require constitutional amendments.
Nearly 17 million Venezuelans are expected to participate in the referendum vote.
The changes in the constitution would enable governors, mayors, regional legislators, congressmen and the president for re-election as long as people approve.
Venezuela’s Elections Council (CNE) is drawing up its plan for free and fair voting. It will test the invisible ink to be used in the referendum at the Central University of Venezuela Monday. The CNE would also set up 11,000 polling booths across the country.
CNE president Tibisay Lucena said all technical details, including the voting machines, are being checked, and would continue till the elections are over.
President Hugo Chavez support the proposal for unlimited term of office.
