BJP, Congress should jointly form next government: Govindacharya

Ahmedabad : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its archrival Congress should come together to form the next government after the general election, says Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideologue K.N. Govindacharya.

Addressing mediapersons here Wednesday, Govindacharya said the main worry was dangerous instability, and a third front would further worsen the crisis.

“Last time around, the BJP and Congress together secured 282 seats while this time they could get 252 seats among themselves,” the former BJP leader said. Saying the upcoming April-May poll was without issues, he said local factors were bound to dominate.

“I see the BJP as a saffron Congress. I also visualise seeing more corrupt and unstable governments. It is therefore best for the country if the BJP and Congress join hands to form the next government at the centre,” Govindacharya, who had famously fallen out with the BJP, said.

Govindacharya was here at the invitation of the Maha Gujarat Janata Party founded by former minister of state for home Gordhan Zadaphia.

“Present day politics is in a transition phase and following a paradigm shift, changes are expected. The 100-year-old political thinking will be giving way. And development will be the main issue,” he said.

Govindacharya also called BJP veteran L.K. Advani “a reluctant fighter” when asked who would make a better prime minister, he or Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

He said Advani is being forced to lead the BJP. The BJP leader wants to retire peacefully, as age has caught up with him. Advani now feels like “a scooter stepney”. That is why the scooter has stopped running, Govindacharya said.
