Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan Monday lashed out at opposition leaders facing graft charges but remained mum on the tainted Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan.
The CPI-M politburo had met in New Delhi Saturday to discuss the case of Vijayan, an accused in a case of irregularities in awarding a contract to Canadian firm SNC Lavalin when he was the state’s power minister. The politburo said the charges by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Vijayan were politically motivated.
Talking to reporters here, Achuthanandan talked about corruption charges against K. Karunakaran, C.V. Padmarajan and R. Balakrishnan Pillai but when asked about Vijayan he kept mum. When repeatedly pressed reporters Achuthanandan walked out of the press conference in a huff.
Meanwhile Vijayan told reporters at Kochi that a section of the people, ousted from the party, are trying to create problems.
“All the issues have surfaced because of the various interpretations and there is no doubt on the stand of Achuthanandan towards the party,” Vijayan said.
