US drone attack kills 30 in Pakistan

By Xinhua,

Islamabad : At least 30 people were killed Monday when missiles fired from a US drone (pilotless aircraft) hit a training camp of Taliban militants in Pakistan’s northwestern Orakzai tribal agency, a media report said.

Four missiles hit the camp where Pakistani and Afghan Taliban militants receive training, the News Network International (NNI) news agency said.

Behram Khan, an Afghan commander, was in charge of the camp, the NNI said.

This was the first US missile attack against suspected Taliban hideouts in the area.

Pakistan has termed the drone attacks in its territory as “counter-productive” in the fight against terrorism, and urged the US administration to stop such attacks.

Earlier reports said that at least 15 people were killed in the drone attack.

US drones continued patrolling in the area after the attack, the report said.

The Orakzai tribal agency is located in the Federally Administered Tribal Area of Pakistan.
