Dead cop’s relatives meet West Bengal governor

Kolkata : West Bengal governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi Tuesday assured a proper inquiry will be carried out into the death of a police officer, who had conducted initial investigations in the sensational Rizwanur case.

The body of Arindam Manna, posted with the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Dum Dum, was found Feb 11 near the Mankundu railway station under the jurisdiction of Sheoraphuli GRP. It bore injury marks on legs, hands and eyes.

Manna’s father Ashok Kumar Manna, along with other relatives, visited Gandhi at his residence Raj Bhavan here Tuesday evening.

“We requested Gandhi for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into my son’s death. Also, we told him we are sure Arindam did not commit suicide, but was murdered,” the father said.

“The governor said he will convey our request to the concerned authority and assured us that Arindam will get justice,” he added.

Arindam Manna was the police officer who had carried out preliminary investigations into the sensational Rizwanur Rahman death case. Rahman’s body had been found next to the rail lines on the outskirts of this metropolis in 2007, just about a month after his marriage to Priyanka Todi. Priyanka’s father, industrialist Ashok Todi, was known to be vehemently opposed to the marriage.
