New Delhi : A city court Thursday asked Amar Singh to appear before it Friday in a case he had registered against a man who allegedly tried to cheat the Samajwadi Party leader by impersonating as a law officer.
Amar Singh was to depose Thursday but cited his busy schedule for not appearing.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaweri Baweja after considering Amar singh’s plea to attend a doctor asked him to depose Friday, as his testimony in the 2007 case is needed to reach a logical conclusion.
Amar Singh had alleged that Barun Kumar Verma, who was arrested June 4, 2007, on his complaint, had approached him after reading about a Supreme Court case against Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. Verma impersonated as a law officer and claimed he had high connections with the judiciary and could sort out the cases.
Verma allegedly asked for Rs.50 million for settling the case and said he could fix Justice A. R. Lakshmanan, who was hearing the disproportionate assets case against Mulayam Singh.
However, Verma, a resident of Lajpat Nagar, has denied the charges.
A case of cheating and impersonation was registered by Delhi Police’s special cell against him.
