Thiruvananthapuram : Youth Congress activists in Kerala will Monday launch protests against Idea Cellular Ltd’s new television commercial which they say depicts Mahatma Gandhi in poor light.
Speaking to IANS, T.Siddiq, state Youth Congress chief here, said that Idea Cellular’s latest TV commercial is outrageous and an insult to the Father of the Nation.
“As the first step of protest in all major cities in the state, our activists will march to the office of the Idea Cellular starting tomorrow, asking them to withdraw the advertisement. Also all our activists who hold an Idea connection will be surrendering their connection,” said Siddiq.
Idea Cellular’s latest commercial advertisement shows a women being pestered by a man, sending a message to her friends asking if she should take the route of ‘Gandhi or a commando’ to tackle the eve-teaser.
“She gets a reply and she says majority says ‘commando’. In the next shot she kicks the man. This is a clear cut depiction of Gandhiji in poor light and commercialising Gandhiji in the wrong way. This is what we are against,” said Siddiq.
He warned the second phase of the protest will not be “pleasant” and it would be better for the company to withdraw the advertisement and apologise.
