Raipur : Vani Rao, head of the Congress’ women cell in Chhattisgarh, Monday said she has asked the party’s national leadership to give at least four of the 11 Lok Sabha poll tickets from the state to women candidates.
“I have requested party president Sonia Gandhi and state in-charge V. Narayanasamy to field at least four women candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls,” Rao told IANS.
Five of the 10 women candidates fielded for election to the 90-member state assembly by the party in November last year were successful.
“A 50 percent success rate is quite good and the party central leadership must not overlook my demand of four tickets for women out of 11 seats,” Rao added.
She said the party’s women leaders have a good hold in Bilaspur, Janjgir, Raigarh and Durg seats.
In the last Lok Sabha polls, the Congress won just one seat in the state – the Mahasamund constituency of former chief minister Ajit Jogi.
