New Delhi : The Central Information Commission has penalised public information officers in 211 cases and recommended disciplinary action in 21 cases since 2006, the Lok Sabha was informed Wednesday.
The officers were penalised for not following the Right to Information (RTI) Act while supplying information to the applicants.
“The recommendation of the CIC for disciplinary action against the guilty central public information officers is to be acted upon by the respective cadre controlling authorities,” Prithviraj Chavan, the minister of state in prime minister’s office and minister of state in ministry of personnel, said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
“Information regarding the disciplinary action taken by the cadre controlling authorities is not centrally maintained,” the minister added.
The minister informed the house that from 2006 till September 2008, the CIC has received 23,501 appeals and complaints and disposed off 15,315.
