Raipur : The Chhattisgarh government Thursday announced that it has split the state electricity board into five entities – one holding company and four others to manage transmission, distribution, production and trading.
The new companies are – Chhattisgarh State Power Transmission Co. Ltd, Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Co. Ltd, Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Co. Ltd, Chhattisgarh State Power Trading Co. Ltd and Chhattisgarh State Power Holding Ltd.
The government has appointed separate managing directors for all the five companies, while state Chief Secretary P. Joy Oommen will be their chairman.
As per the requirement of of Electricity Act 2003, all states have to divide their electricity boards into separate companies.
The government’s decision to split the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board (CSEB), one of the country’s most profit-making electricity boards, came despite repeated warnings by about 17,000 electricity workers for an indefinite strike.
The CSEB, which came into existence in December 2000, presently generates 1,923.85 MW of electricity, of which 1,786 MW is thermal power and the remaining is generated by hydel projects.
