20 Afghan Policemen Killed in Ambush

Kabul : Twenty Afghan policemen and one civilian died in combat with rebels in Helmand, south Afghanistan, said the governor’s spokesman Daoud Ahmadi.

The victims were security guards of Musa Qala District Chief Abdul Salam and died in an attack to Salam’s residence.

Afghan AIP news agency calls Salam ex rebel leader in Helmand that joining government troops.

Ahmadi added that a woman, mother of one of the policemen, died in the attack.

Two soldiers from NATO-led International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) died in separate incidents in the south but the release does not give the exact location.

Violence has claimed over 4,000 lives on the first eight months of 2008 but the UN says that official year-long estimates do not exist.
