Kathmandu : Mulayam Singh Yadav, former Indian central minister and chief of the Samajwadi Party, arrived Sunday in Nepal at the personal invitation of President Ram Baran Yadav.
Mulayam Singh Yadav, a former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, is accompanied by the general secretary of his party, Amar Singh, during the one-day visit.
After talks with the Nepali president, the Indian visitors will also meet Nepal’s Maoist Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and members of Nepal’s Madhesi community, people of Indian origin living in the Terai plains along the India-Nepal border.
The president’s office said it was a private visit.
The Indian leaders’ visit comes at a time when Nepal’s fifth largest party, the Terai Madhes Loktantrik Party that comprises Madhesi leaders, has withdrawn its “moral support” to the Prachanda government and has announced a protest movement from Jan 12.
