Chennai : Indian Davis Cupper Rohan Bopanna qualified for the main draw of the $450,000 ATP Chennai Open tennis tournament that commenced here Monday with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win against Germany’s Michael Berrer in his final qualifying round match.
Bopanna built his game around his big serve as he sent down 15 aces as against four by Berrer who also committed four double-faults.
After dropping the first set, Bopanna rallied splendidly to come up with timely service breaks and went on to win the match.
The results (qualifying final round): Flavio Cipolla (ITA) bt Alex Satschko (GER) 6-3, 6-1; Rohan Bopanna (IND) bt Michael Berrer (GER) 4-6, 6-3, 6-4; Danai Udomchoke (THA) bt Kyu Tae Im (KOR) 7-6(5), 6-1; Rajeev Ram (USA) bt Alexandre Kudryavtsev (RUS) 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-3.
