NC-Congress government will succeed in Kashmir: Karan Singh

By IANS,

Jammu : As the new National Conference-Congress government was
sworn in Jammu and Kashmir Monday, MP Karan Singh hoped that the coalition
rule will develop the economy of the state.

A 10-member ministerial council led by Omar Abdullah, 38, was administered
the oath at a simple ceremony here.

“There are many issues that Omar and his government have to deal with, but I
am sure and I have no doubt about it that if both the National Conference
and the Congress work together, they can deliver on all fronts, whether
development, economic, social or any other,” said Karan Singh, a senior
Congress leader.

Others, including opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, also
hoped that the new government will ensure equal development of all three
regions – Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh – of the state.

“It is good the state has such a young leader in Omar, but he has to prove
himself by taking all the three regions, Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, along
with him and address the issues of discrimination,” said BJP leader Rajesh
Gupta.

President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jammu, Ram Sahai said:
“This is the best team that we can have… under the young, dynamic Omar
Abdullah. He knows that development has to be achieved through progress of
the private sector.”
