Gaza : Ten Palestinians were killed and 20 others wounded Tuesday afternoon when the Israeli army hit a school run by the UN in northern Gaza, emergency officials said.
Mo’aweya Hassanein, chief of emergency and ambulance services in the Palestinian health ministry told reporters that 10 civilians were killed in the strike on al-Fakhoura school in Jabalia refugee camp.
He said 20 others were also wounded in the attack but did not mention whether the school was hit by a ground or an ariel missile attack.
Witnesses said several Israeli army tanks were seen some three kilometers east and north of the camp.
The latest strike came shortly after Palestinian militants fired mortar shells from an area near the school at Israeli ground forces stationed in northern Gaza.
Hassanein said at least 596 people were killed and more than 2,700 others wounded since the start of the Israeli military operation on Gaza Strip Dec 27.
