A first in CBI: sub-inspector rises to rank of joint director

New Delhi : For the first time in the history of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), an officer who started his career as a sub inspector in the agency has risen to the position of joint director, an official statement said Wednesday.

M. Narayanan has been promoted to the rank of joint director and has been posted to the Special Crime Zone-I, CBI, New Delhi. Earlier he was serving as deputy inspector general (DIG), Special Crime Region, Delhi.

“Narayanan started his career in CBI as a sub inspector and in the history of the CBI, he is the only officer who has reached to the level of joint director/inspector general from that position,” said the CBI statement.

“Narayanan has vast experience in all the divisions of CBI stretching over 38 years. He has investigated many sensitive cases, which ended in successful convictions,” the statement added.

He has been decorated with Police Medal for meritorious services in 1992 and President’s Police Medal for distinguished services in 1999.
