Vibrant Gujarat to focus on small industries: Modi

Ahmedabad : The Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit-2009, begining Jan 12, will focus on the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector, and generate more employment, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said here Tuesday.

“The global economic crisis is an opportunity for Gujarat to plan and march ahead. In these times, big industries need the support system of SMEs,” Modi told reporters.

The latest edition of the biennial investors’ summit is expected to draw around 5,000 delegates from 30 countries and 60 multinational companies. Business leaders, investors, corporates, and policy and opinion makers will come on one platform Jan 12-13 here in the event.

“Our SMEs can reach global level on their own through technological upgrade and innovation. All this can be successful through global networking. Vibrant Gujarat is aiming at this direction,” he added.

“It is heartening that Gujarat is held in high esteem by the global investors fraternity,” Modi said.

The event that started in 2003 has now taken an “institutional shape” and the state’s confidence is at a new peak, he added.

“Today Gujarat is benchmarked for development in the country,” Modi said.
