Gaza : A Hamas delegation left Gaza on Friday, heading to Cairo for talks with senior Egyptian officials to discuss the Egyptian Initiative set to negotiate terms for a ceasefire to reach a truce with Israel in the Gaza Strip.
The delegation included three Hamas leaders, Ayman Taha, JamalAbu Hashim and Salah el-Bardawil who left Gaza and crossed into Egypt through Rafah border crossing between the two sides.
Two other Hamas leaders, Imad Al-A’lami and Mohammad Naser traveled to Cairo from Damascus in Syria, as representatives from the Hamas leaders in exile.
Deputy of the Hamas politburo office Mousa Abu Marzuq said the visit aimed at clarifying several points in the initiative, and to assess whether it could be implemented in phases or immediately.
He said that the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, particularly from the Philadelphi Route, or buffer zone corridor inside Gaza where Israel continued to operate following its 2005 withdrawal, was an important point for Hamas.
