Ahmedabad : Noting the level of participation at the global investors summit in Gujarat, Chief Minister Narendra Modi Sunday said it was a recognition of the achievements the state had made.
“For the first time, over 37 companies are coming to one state function. This is not a small achievement. Not only businessmen, there are diplomats, government representatives, vice-presidents, leaders of house and senators,” he said, adding it was rare to see such a gathering even at a national event.
Speaking at the inauguration of an exhibition here at the Science City on the eve of two-day Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit beginning Monday, Modi said the he was sure Japan’s interest in the state “would create new history and a turning point in Asia’s economy.
“Gujarat, once known as a state of traders, is today known for its manufacturing hub. In India, Gujarat is leading in manufacturing. It means it can take on China in the competition,” he said.
“It is my dream that whatever good is there in the world, I want it in my Gujarat,” Modi added.
The chief minister said his government was not into marketing products, but it was due to good governance that his government is known.
“When Nano and Bombardier are showcased, the people see through it the quality of governance. It is only a sample. If the sample is good, then the godown must be good,” Modi said.
Chief Secretary D. Rajagopalan said the exhibition showcased the developmental strength of Gujarat.
Noting that 16 countries are participating in the summit and 500 foreign delegates are here, he said the fact that Japan is was a partner in the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC) projects shows that the state is realizing its potential.
“When we held the first exhibition, it covered an area of 3,000 sq m. Today it has risen to 19,109 sq m. And the number of stalls too has gone up from 36 to 227,” Rajagopalan said.
“Modi has put forward a vision. He has motivated government agencies and bureaucracy. He has also made the people work to realize his dream,” said Rajesh Shah, former president of the Gujarat chapter of Confederation of India Industry (CII).
