Police rescue abducted boys in West Bengal

By IANS,

Kolkata : Two teenaged boys were abducted by identified men when they were returning form a religious rally in Kolkata’s twin district Howrah Monday morning, officials said. The boys were rescued by the police later in the day.

Raju Das, a Class-X student, and Satyajit Chatterjee, who worked as a helper in a bus, were rescued following timely intervention by the police. No one, however, has been arrested so far in connection with the incident.

According to the police, a red coloured van whisked off Das and Chatterjee from Belur Math locality in neighbouring Howrah district, some 25 km from here.

Eyewitnesses immediately informed the police and the district police alerted all police stations in adjoining Kolkata and Hooghly districts.

Within an hour from the time of the abduction, the van was found abandoned at Uttarpara locality in Hooghly. The boys were found locked inside the van.

“The investigation is still on and we are interrogating the boys to get further information about the miscreants,” a police officer said.
