Pakistan names three-member panel to probe Mumbai attacks

By IANS,

Islamabad : Pakistan has named a three-member panel to probe the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. The committee will be allowed to exchange information directly with Indian investigation agencies, media reports said Thursday.

The probe panel will be headed by Additional Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Javed Iqbal, and comprises Khalid Qureshi and Liaquat Ali Khan, Geo TV reported.

According to sources, the option of sending the commission to India would also be considered if the need arises.

The scope of the functioning and authority of the high level commission has been defined.

The panel members would be allowed to exchange information directly with Indian probe agencies so that the process of investigation could be completed at the earliest, The News reported.

Secretary Interior Syed Kamal Shah, confirming the panel, said it would submit the report to the interior ministry as soon as possible. The report will then be presented to the prime minister.

India has blamed the Mumbai attacks, in which 170 people were killed including 26 foreigners, on “elements” based in Pakistan and provided Islamabad with a dossier containing evidence.
