London : Barrack Obama’s British stepmother was given the royal treatment at Heathrow airport as she flew out for the ceremony of his inauguration as US president.

Kezia Obama, 67, was received at the airport by a battalion of Virgin Atlantic staff Thursday – they even had a cake ready for her because she was also celebrating her birthday.

Kenyan-born Kezia wore a glittering traditional African dress and hat, and left her home in Bracknell, Berkshire, in the early hours to be present for the ceremony in Washington next Tuesday.

“I’m so happy, very excited and proud. He will do a very good job. I cannot wait to see Barack Junior and the rest of the family,” said Kezia, who was married to Obama’s father when they lived in Kenya.

“I’m so excited about going over to Washington and being involved in the celebrations.”

She said her stepson “will make a great president for the people. He is a very smart, strong and friendly man. He has already started making changes.

“I wish his father could see him. He would be very proud,” she added.

Kezia, who moved to Britain six years ago, said she had also celebrated the election victory with relatives in Kenya.

To celebrate the inauguration, she is launching Mrs Obama’s Bingo, an online charity game at galabingo.com from which she hopes to raise money for the Sue Ryder Care charity.
