Jeddah : The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is sending its first relief convoy to Gaza today carrying 170 tons of medical supplies and foodstuffs. The Secretary General of OIC Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu will attend the launch of a humanitarian ground bridge to deliver basic humanitarian needs to the population in the Gaza Strip in the wake of the brutal Israeli aggression against them, according to an OIC statement. The humanitarian bridge will be conducted, in cooperation and coordination with the Saudi Red Crescent Society and in conjunction with the ongoing fundraising campaign, ordered by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz.
Earlier, OIC dispatched an aid consignment consisting of 300 tons of medicine, medical equipment, and food supplies to Gaza. The aid convoy entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing last Wednesday as part of the assistance campaign launched by the OIC Secretary General. The pan Islamic body of OIC’s move is aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the besieged Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip who are experiencing a real humanitarian catastrophe resulting from Israeli hostilities. Prof. Ihsanoglu has urged all OIC member states and civil institutions to contribute to the campaign to make it a success. He said the OIC is in close contact with its member states and is coordinating with Arab and international organizations to put an end to the Israeli atrocities.
