Patrolling along Pakistan border beefed up in Gujarat

By IANS,

Bhuj (Gujarat) : Security has been beefed up along the India-Pakistan border touching Kutch and Banaskantha districts in Gujarat ahead of the Jan 26 Republic Day celebrations, a Border Security Force (BSF) official said Thursday.

“While BSF patrols the border routinely, intensive patrolling is being carried out. We are fully geared to meet any eventuality,” the official said at this Kutch district headquarters.

“The infiltration attempts from the Pakistani side by militants go up during winter in Kutch and Banskantha as they are unable to cross the snow-clad mountains in the Kashmir valley from Pakistan,” he said.

“We are ensuring that nobody crosses the border from the other side,” the official added while pleading anonymity.

The entire 514-km stretch of the border touching Gujarat is under enhanced aerial surveillance, he added.

Residents of villages near the border have been asked to remain alert and inform any suspicious movement to BSF or the army, he added.
