Missing Indian boy in London?

By IANS,

London : British police are investigating a possible sighting of missing Indian-origin teenager Jonathan Marques.

Police said they are “pulling out all the stops” in the hunt for Marques, who disappeared two weeks ago from his home in Whitley, a suburb of the southeastern town of Reading.

“The sighting in London is something we are currently looking at and we are trying to prioritise and collate all the evidence that is coming in,” said Detective Chief Inspector Stan Gilmour, who is leading 25 officers in the biggest hunt for a missing person in Reading.

He said all police forces across Britain have been alerted about the case.

Officers from the Specialist Search and Recovery Team (SSRT) have also been pressed into the hunt, and have searched by rivers and canals in Whitley. Both divers and boats have been used, although fast currents at the local Kennet and Avon Canal have prevented underwater searches.

A Facebook group set up by the Reading Evening Post newspaper has helped widen the search by attracting more than 2,200 members worldwide.

Jonathan’s father Menino Marques, who is from Goa, has made an emotional appeal for information, saying: “He must come back. We love him. We miss him. We are waiting to embrace him. He is not in any trouble. We just want him back.

“We have been waiting to hear his voice on the phone, or for him to ring on the doorbell.”
