Babulal Marandi rules out return to BJP

By IANS,

Ranchi : Former chief minister and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Democratic) party president Babulal Marandi has ruled out the possibility of his return to the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

“There is no question of me joining any political party or undertaking any alliance with any party in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The national parties do not work for the interest of the states,” Marandi told IANS.

He termed as “baseless” the media reports that he had any plan to merge his party into the BJP or rejoin the party.

Marandi, the first chief minister of Jharkhand after the state was carved out from Bihar in 2000, had quit the BJP in 2006 after “feeling frustrated with the attitude of the party leaders” and floated his own political party.

In view of the coming Lok Sabha and assembly elections, efforts were being made by BJP leaders to bring Marandi back to the party.

However, Marandi said his party will fight all the 14 Lok Sabha in Jharkhand and 81 assembly seats in the upcoming elections, and claimed he would emerge as one of the important political parties in the the state after the elections.

On the present political scenario in Jharkhand, Marandi said a fresh poll was the only option.

“People are feeling fed up due with the rule of both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in last four years. President’s rule is no solution to the crisis,” he said.
