Lucknow : Four Bangladeshis, including a woman, have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh for their alleged involvement in a human trafficking racket, police said Saturday.
“Acting on information from officials of the intelligence department, we raided a hideout in Sadar locality in Saharanpur district and nabbed the four Bangladeshi nationals Friday night,” local intelligence unit (LIU) circle officer Rajendra Singh told IANS on telephone.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the culprits would secretly bring Bangladeshi nationals to the country by promising them jobs and charged money from them.
Investigations are on to find out whether the arrested people have any criminal background or links with clandestine outfits, added Singh.
Saharanpur is some 400 km from Lucknow.
According to the police, the four have admitted they were involved in human trafficking for the last five years and other members of the group were active in various districts of Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states, including Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand.
