New Delhi : Recuperating after his heart bypass surgery Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has turned to ghazals by legendary Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib.
In an interview to CNN-IBN, Manmohan Singh’s daughter Daman Singh, who has just penned her deubut novel “Nine by Nine”, said her father was recovering fast after Saturday’s coronary bypass surgery and was listening to a CD of Ghalib’s poems since Sunday night.
“Most of the time he is just resting. He is also listening to music. Somebody had got him a CD of Ghalib. Last night he was listening to that,” Daman Singh said.
The Pakistan-born economist-turned-prime minister is very fond of Ghalib’s ghazals and has spontaneously recited from his poems in his speeches.
The prime minister, his daughter told the news channel, was itching to get back home. “His desire is just to get back home. Rather than taking the home to the hospital, he just wants to be home.
“The doctors are very pleased with his progress and we get daily updates, morning and evening so we are all very very encouraged by what the doctors are telling us,” Daman Singh said. “He looks quite strong and doing well.”
Daman Singh also expressed her gratitude for the concerns and prayers of so many people all over India which has helped the family “remain cheerful through difficult times”.
Manmohan Singh, 76, is expected to be home in a few days.
