New Delhi : Delhi High Court Tuesday refused security to Syed Yahya Bukhari after police said the alleged terror threat to the younger brother of Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Ahmed Bukhari was vague.
“There is no individual threat perception to the petitioner,” Delhi Police counsel Mukta Gupta told the court.
The younger Bukhari had requested the court to direct the police to reinstate his security cover in view of alleged threat from the Pakistan-based terror outfit Harkat-ul-Mujahideen.
Bahar Barqi, Bukhari’s counsel, said his client has been spearheading anti-terrorists protest campaigns for years and that he was a target of the Harkat.
Gupta said police found that there was no serious threat to the petitioner and no personal security was required.
Bukhari was earlier given security but it was reviewed in 2008 and after finding no such threat police protection was withdrawn in February last year, Gupta said.
The court turned down the appeal for security and asked Bukhari’s counsel to file a rejoinder and fixed the matter for Aug 10.
“You create some more serious threats but as of now, no security,” Justice Kailash Gambhir said.
