Puri temple rituals disrupted after worker found dead

By IANS,

Bhubaneswar : Rituals at the Jagannath temple in Orissa’s Puri town were disrupted after an employee was found dead in a well within the premises. Police have ruled out any foul play and termed it an accident.

The body of Tapan Panda, 28, who worked as a supakar (temple cook), found floating in a well inside the shrine. The rope and bucket for drawing water were recovered along with the body.

Following the discovery of Panda’s body in the temple well, early morning rituals at the 12th century shrine were suspended for hours while priests conducted elaborate purification rituals to re-sanctify the premises.

A case of unnatural death has been registered with the Singhadwar police station. However, no foul play is suspected. Police say it is possible Panda may have slipped and fallen into the well while drawing water.
