Kolkata: An improvised explosive device (IED) was found on the railway tracks in Purulia district of West Bengal Saturday — a day before state Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s visit to the district, police said.
“We detected an IED on the railways tracks between Barabhum and Urma station in Purulia district and successfully defused it,” Deputy Inspector General of Police (Railways) N.R Babu told IANS.
He said the area where the explosive was found was located near neighbouring Jharkhand state.
“We defused the IED before arrival of any passenger train on that railway track. The train movement was temporarily diverted because of the police operation,” Babu said, adding the bomb disposal squad of West Midnapore district was called in for the operation.
