Why 500 extremists trained by Purohit not questioned: Maha minister

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Home Minister Arif Naseem Khan has expressed his anger on why three accused in Malegaon 2008 blasts are still absconding and why the police did not question the 500 youths trained by the serving army officer, a prime accused in the case.

Not satisfied with the slow progress in Malegaon 2008 blasts case, Maharashtra minister of state for home Arif Naseem Khan yesterday held a meeting of Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief K P Raghuvanshi , joint police commissioner (crime) Rakesh Maria and other officers of the home ministry. He sought to know from the officers as to why there was no development in the case except the arrest of some accused.

In the Malegaon 08 blasts, the ATS long ago had arrested 11 alleged terrorists from Hindu community. The blasts had claimed six lives and injured more than 150. The accused including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Lt Colonel Purohit, Rakesh Dhawade and others are alleged members of Abhinav Bharat, the organization said to have masterminded the blasts. During their interrogation three more names had emerged in connection with the blast. But the trio are still at large.

Naseem Kahn wanted to know from K P Raghuvanshi as to why the trio was not arrested yet and why the students – nearly 500 whom Purohit accepted to have trained in Bhonsla Military School of Nashik – were not questioned. Raghuvanshi reportedly said that soon the wanted culprits too will be nailed.

Khan asked them to keep vigil on the activities of Abhinav Bharat so that terror attacks could be prevented. Khan asked them to be unbiased and not to arrest anyone unless there is solid proof against them.

Khan also told that he along with the Malegaon Kul Jamati Tanzeem delegation had met Sonia Gandhi and demanded that Prabhani, Jalna and Purna blasts should be handed over to the CBI.

Arif Naseem Khan also sought the police report in the Khwaja Yunus custodial death case and assured that all the culprits in the case will be punished.

‘We will try that the government appoints senior and experienced advocates to follow these cases to ensure that the guilty are punished,’ said Khan.
