Srinagar : Security forces cordoned off the Imam Sahib village in south Kashmir to search for militants Wednesday even as the death toll in Tuesday’s grenade attack on a police camp in the area rose to two with a policeman succumbing to his injuries, officials said.
Constable Shafiq Ahmad of the Special Operations Group (SOG) died Tuesday night at the Soura Medical Institute here. He was injured in the militant attack on the SOG camp at Imam Sahib near Shopian, about 60 km from here.
Sub-Inspector Sethi Ram was killed on the spot and four of his colleagues, including Ahmad, were injured when guerrillas fired a rifle grenade, which fell and exploded inside the camp Tuesday afternoon.
Security forces surrounded the area around the camp early Wednesday to conduct a search.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
