Bengal told to ensure security for Trinamool team to Lalgarh

Basapara (West Bengal): The centre has directed West Bengal to ensure fool-proof security arrangements for a high-profile Trinamool Congress delegation that is to visit trouble-torn Lalgarh area Tuesday, party chief and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said.

Disclosing this Monday at a rally in this Birbhum district area, Banerjee said she had informed the centre about the visit of a three-member party delegation to Lalgarh in West Midnapore district.

The team comprises union ministers Mukul Roy and Sisir Adhikari and Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly Partha Chattopadhyay.

Banerjee demanded a halt to the joint operation by the central and state forces in Lalgarh alleging that the ruling Left Front major Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) was “committing atrocities on the people there under the guise of the security operation”.

Banerjee also announced that a Trinamool team led by union Minister of State for Rural Development Sisir Adhikari will visit West Midnapore district’s Maheshpur village Aug 2 to meet party supporters who had “been tortured by the CPI-M goons”.
