Jewellery, cash stolen from Tanishq showroom in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad: Four Nepali men employed at a Tanishq showroom in Ghaziabad allegedly fled with gold and diamond studded jewellery worth over Rs.5 million as well as cash, police said Monday.

The theft came to light when the showroom, located on Ambedkar Road, was opened Monday morning and the staff found a number of diamond and jewellery articles missing from the boxes, a relative of showroom-owner Narendra Gupta said.

“We have filed a complaint against Suresh Bahadur, Naval Bahadur, Basant Bahadur – the three servants – and one of their relatives with the Kotwali police. The value of the missing articles is being done and it is expected to be heavy,” said Vikram Aggarwal, a relative of Gupta.

The three servants hailed from Nepal and were working at the showroom for between five to 10 years. “Today (Monday), the other staff came as usual on duty but the three servants did not turn up, which led us to suspect them,” said Aggarwal.

The fourth man is stated to be a relative of one of the missing servants. He is also absconding, police said.

As per the reports, the showroom had around 8-10 staff and was fully equipped with CCTV cameras. “We did not use the servant-verification procedures as these men were working for over 5-10 years,” Aggarwal said.

“We are scanning images from the CCTV cameras to know the exact details of the crime,” Circle Officer R.K. Gautam told IANS.

“As per initial investigations, the amount of cash stolen is expected to be around Rs.one million, and jewellery worth Rs.5 million. No arrest has been made so far,” he said.
