Wild jumbos kill 10 in Chhattisgarh in three months

By IANS,

Raipur: Wild elephants trampled to death 10 people in the past three months in Chhattisgarh, the state assembly was informed Wednesday.

Forest Minister Vikram Usendi told the house in a written reply that at least 10 people were trampled to death by wild tuskers in the state between April 1 and June 30.

He admitted that the wild jumbo menace in the state’s vast northern area was on the rise and his department was taking several measures, including training forest residents in tackling jumbos.

He said the government was also considering a proposal to set up an elephant park to keep them away from forested residential pockets.
